Talks with Kola Oyewole - The Big R's - Rape and Racism - Part 1

Hello Friends!

I welcome you to another entertaining, educative episode of 'Talks with Kola Oyewole'. I am not so happy right now about the happenings in the world, and I have decided to talk about the two biggest ones that are really happening and its been saddening since the start - Rape and Racism.....

Kindly. relax and read this piece...

RAPE

Rape is a type of sexual assault usually involving sexual intercourse or other forms of sexual penetration carried out against a person without that person's consent.

The act may be carried out by physical force, coercion, abuse of authority, or against a person who is incapable of giving valid consent, such as one who is unconscious, incapacitated, has an intellectual disability, or is below the legal age of consent. The term rape is sometimes used interchangeably with the term sexual assault.

In the above opening, there is something worthy of note and it is the fact that Rape has to do with consent, which simply means if one party has not agreed (with consent), and you forcefully have any form of intercourse with the person, my dear it is rape.

Rape has been a trending topic around the world and in Nigeria, especially in recent times, that the social media, news, and everybody has been airing their opinion about the subject matter.

RAPE/SEXUAL ASSAULT CASES IN RECENT TIMES:

I have selected a few out of the numerous cases that have always been recorded to talk about, Please follow me closely:

- The University of Benin(UNIBEN) Student, Uwa was raped and killed: I really feel so unhappy about this particular story, but for the purpose of those that don't know, I will try to summarize it in writing.

Uwa Omozuwa, the 22-year-old 100 level student of the University of Benin, was raped and killed right inside a Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) parish on May 27, 2020, during her study hours.

According to the report, Uwa was known to have frequented the church to study since the start of the lockdown as that is the church she attends with her parent. On the said day, she collected the keys to the church from the night guard, so she can go into the church when she arrives.

Unfortunately, when the night guard at the church resumed duties a little after 7pm, he found the lady on the floor in the church half-naked and in the pool of her own blood.

She was said to have been attacked with a fire extinguisher which left her unconscious

The parents and other people were alerted and she was taken to a nearby hospital from where she was transferred to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) where efforts were made to save her life.

“Unfortunately, she gave up the ghost on Saturday night.”

Omozuwa was a member of the church choir.

Can you read the very sad story of this young lady???

Can you imagine... She was raped inside a CHURCH! Like seriously!!!!

Social media users have also aired their view on the subject matter:

- Elderly man caught on camera sexually molesting a girl from Abuja to Akure. OMG!!!:

Why can't some people learn to control their sexual urge...? Is it that difficult?

This story is another story of a young girl who was said to board a bus that plied Abuja to Akure, and unfortunately, the elderly man was caught on camera sexually molesting the young girl, further investigation showed that when they got to a soldier checkpoint in Edo, the girl was said to have reported to a soldier, but instead, the soldier shouted on her and even people in the bus cautioned her that she was overreacting...

WATCH THE VIDEO BELOW:

Worthy of notice is that, if not for the young girl's intelligence to filming the incident, most people would not believe her sadly

- The allegation against Babcock University Student, Yangy who was said to be a Rapist.

This trend started today on Twitter, as a Babcock University student called Yangy has been alleged to be a rapist.

A lady released screenshots where she accused Yangy of raping her and Twitter users have gone all out in protests against Yangy with many also sharing their past experiences with him.

So far, over 20 women have accused Yangy of rape... Yes, over 20 and it has become the top trend on twitter as more people dish out evidence to show that Yangy is truly a rapist.

SEE SOME TWEETS:

RAPE/SEXUAL ASSAULT IS NOT CAUSED BY THIS...

In this section, I will be speaking on some of the controversy surrounding rape and my own opinion on the subject matter. I will also be airing my opinion on what does not cause Rape, and I want you to follow critically:

- Rape is not caused by indecent dressing

I as a person detest to hear this, though it is very good to dress well - as a matter of fact, I am an advocate for decent dressing, but the indecent dressing is never a cause of rape.

Research has shown that every people who dress well can be raped, young children who are raped by there uncles or fathers are well dressed and most times indecent dressing is off the hook.

A lady on twitter shared her part of the story when she revealed that her despite being on her hijab was still raped!!!

You begin to ask yourself, what is the problem exactly...?

Can you see what that Nigerian man is saying above, so so so annoying

This young ladies that are been raped are vulnerable that no matter how they dress, some ardent rapist would --------

- There is and there won't ever be a moral justification for rape/sexual assault
I have been seeing some reactions on Twitter, where some people were asking questions like 'What if she did this?, 'What If this happened' this and that. My dear, no matter what has happened they can't be any moral justification for you to rape or sexual assault or molest anybody.

For example, as regards Uwa Rape case, someone made this revelation:

Can you see that? HE said, why will she be dating two roommates...? Even if it is true, is that a reason for the poor girl to be ganged raped...????

THERE IS NO MORAL JUSTIFICATION FOR RAPE - IF YOU ARE A RAPIST, REPENT NOW AND TURN A NEW LEAF...

IN SUMMARY, the victim of rape who is at the receiving end has a story to tell, and many a time, most of them won't come out to tell you their story because of the emotional trauma attached to this act, many ladies live the rest of their lives forever hating men, many ladies won't be normal again after this....

Rapist shouldn't because of there 5minutes enjoyment destroy the lives of victims, it has to stop now... WE ARE TIRED!!!!...

Worthy of notice is the fact that 80% of rape cases have no evidence to back them, this victims don't know they would be raped, there have not planted any camera anywhere, so please, if the Lady is saying NO, she is not ready for any intercourse, Kindly leave her, even if she is your girlfriend and you have sex with her without consent, You have raped her according to the Law.

Lol, Nigerian men on Twitter in lieu of this above discovery have proceeded to make a sexual consent form available before they agree to have sex with any lady. Well, it is a welcome idea...

OKAY, I have to stop here today... there is still more to talk about, but -------
Stay tuned for Part 2.

  2. Yes, we should discuss about the thriving issue, and saying no to rape, but I still believe in a lot of factors that contribute to the increase in the rate of rape.
Why not let's discuss about that too.

  3. If more proper punishment are given to rapist and no plead deals of what so ever. Punishment like life in prison, I believe it will tame this wicked acts.

    A short story sir.
A guy whom I know is father causally raped a lady and the matter was almost swept under the carpet. But luckily for the lady, the guy was given JUST 5 YEARS, he came back and last year and they celebrated him.

    May God protect our ladies
